Help 3 year old DS - chances for an EHC Plan

Hi

I was wondering whether my son could qualify for a EHC Plan or some other form of support.

The main problems he has are 1. anxiety 2. social skills. 3. Hyperactivity 4. overly emotional.

None on their own are massive hurdles but cumulatively they are going to cause him problems.

• He becomes very nervous or afraid of new things / people, in particular when there is another adult at school.
  
• He gets scared very easily, he won't use the climbing frame, or the swings, at his nursery because he says he will fall off and hurt himself.
  
• At school sometimes he'll sit on the corner playing by himself and not interacting with the rest of the class.
  
• If a teacher says him to stop doing something he'll become emotional and cry.
  
• At home he is very aggressive and loud, the opposite of how he is at school, where he is timid and quiet.
  

I am just looking for some advice / help around whether a EHC Plan would be possible for him. And, how would I start this process, should I take him to a GP?

I'm not sure if I can be much help but following with interest as I have a 3yr Ds with suspected ASD (awaiting assessment) who we also believe will struggle at school when he starts. It sounds like EHCPs are very hard to get. I think as much evidence as you can get to prove his current nursery setting is already hard for him would help. Also wouldn't harm to take to GP who may refer for further assessments which again can be used in an application. As I said no expert but I'm feeling the same worries as you...

My 7 year old was diagnosed with autism after year and a half process and we've been turned down for ehcp assessment even with a diagnosis in place. Having to appeal to tribunal

Did they giving specific reasons for turning you down gator?

From my understanding to get an EHCP you would need evidence from a range of professionals. I would start with GP who would hopefully refer you to a paediatrician and also see if nursery will get a SENCo involved. They would hopefully be able to offer ideas for support. Have the nursery put in place a 'My Plan'? I pushed for this for ds1 as I knew it would make getting support when he started school much quicker. Whilst my ds1 has a range of diagnosed difficulties none of them are severe enough for an EHCP so we just have to keep hassling to get the support he needs.
