Hi I'm posting for a friend, her dd is obsessing about food and excersise, shes good friends with my dd, I don't really know how to help her, and her mum is really upset, as it's constant arguments over food and how much she eats, and when she goes to her room she's always excersising.. sit ups etc and wanting to go for runs! She's lost an awful lot of weight and def depressed.

She hasn't had any problems like this before so it's in the last few months

You might get more helpful advice if you post this on the eating disorders board over on Health.

My own daughter went through this and the key is early intervention and nipping it in the bud, would suggest GP appointment and - if weight loss has been rapid - they will refer to CAMHS

She went to gp, who just gave her dd a talking too, my friend also rang school nurse who has done more, she weighed her dd and the dd had gone on a school trip over Xmas and they had to be weighed then too and it turns out she's lost half a stone since then! Nurse has said that she's not allowed to excersise, and needs to put weight on and if she dosent, will be referred to a specialist unit! It's hard for my friend as all her dd wants to do is talk about food ! And is eating fat free food.
