Home/screen communication book - DC writing in it

Ds1 Yr6, ASD. We've had the book since just before Christmas. Thus far all entries are by me or the TAs. Today there was an incident where he hurt another child. The entry on this is written by DS1. It does briefly explain what and why he did and that it was wrong and he had admitted it immediately and apologised. but is mostly a rambling history of things he's done to hurt himself. How he is an idiot and will continue to do stupid things as that is who he is. There is no entry by the TA on the incident. I dunno maybe it is a good thing, but it's made me feel a bit uncomfortable for reasons I can't quite articulate. Relations with the school are somewhat strained and I don't feel I can ask why they got DS1 to write in it.

I think it may have been part of his punishment? But I still would have expected an explanation of why they had got him to do it IYKWIM.

I find they are very defensive if I try and explain things. I do really try to make it non-judgmental but they still take everything as a criticism and the same time asking for my help. Confused. I just need to hang in there, only a couple of months left at primary and then he is off to the ASC Hub who will hopefully have a bit more understanding!

Sorry, don't mean to be flippant but i would be delighted if my DS (Yr 4 ASD/ADHD/dyslexia) wrote anything, anywhere. but yes, i agree in a way saving grace is he can't read all the stuff that's written about him.

It's not especially legible and is largely about how stupid he is, so not really an uplifting read. It's probably the most he's written since September as he is refusing to do any work at all.

Once school wanted him to do a what makes a bad day/good day thing as part of his annual review. It was all daddy the greatest and mummy the worst. I (the scribe) refused to slag myself off too much. it's the only time I've seen him voluntarily try and write!

It's always good to know you're appreciated! DS1 won't share his views for annual reviews as they are "offensive"

Did they ask him to write it, or did he decide to write it himself? My DD when a little bit younger than Y6 would try to pre-empt teachers writing/saying bad things about her by getting in first. It was hard to untangle as her self-esteem was so low that the results were way more negative than the teachers would have said or written. But were presented (by her) as the teacher's view.

The TA asked him to do it but he is being vague on the why's and when's. Your poor DD, it's heartbreaking when they are so hard on themselves.

DS1 hates home/school crossover and the existence of the book causes him angst. The school are very poor at communication and there's been so many changes of staff (on class teacher 4 since Sept) I'm loathed to stop it just yet.
