'Inattention' vs missing social cues vs lack of understanding.....shed any light?

I have DD2's CAMHS questionnaire and I'm a bit flummoxed by some of the questions.

Inattention:
'Does the child/young person often not follow through on instructions, fail to complete school work and have difficulty carrying out routines and responsibilities (not due to oppositional behaviour or failure to understand instructions)?'

The options are not at all, just a little, quite a bit or all the time.

Well....all the time. But it's because of a mixture of forgetting what's been asked and getting distracted (Inattention) mixed with not understanding the task (in part because she's drifted off into her own world and in part because the task relies on a skill she didn't learn the first time it was taught), getting overwhelmed by the enormity of a task (anxiety)......

So is it Inattention, or something else? Would she be inattentive if she wasn't so anxious and wound up?

Impulsivity:
Does the young person often interrupt or intrude on others?

Yes, always....but is that because she's impulsive or she just genuinely hasn't registered that we are already talking. She seems genuinely surprised when we say 'DD2, we were talking....'.

Am I overcomplicating this? It just seems to me that there can be one answer but 100 reasons and I can't see how a tick box form could point to the reasons.

My suggestion would be to complete the report and add your own appendix with explanations.

I did this when the OT gave me a sensory questionairre with similar answer options - I apologised for the essay and she thanked me saying it saved them a lot of time actually in the end!

It was a long time ago now, but I think we did the same as youare answered it according to how often he did each thing, then added a sheet of appendices adding more detail about when/how.

I think I'm going to have to. I just hope the school does theirs well. DD2 has a new teacher this year and a new SENCO, so I'm relying on the HT to use her knowledge of DD2 to steer them.

My Dd has Inattention too, is this for adhd? She gets so distracted by things and can't follow instructions easily anostmother thjngs

I think DD2 has ASD, but she's also hugely inattentive....but I'm going to trust the process and just report what we see
