Hi Frayed, DS is nearly 7. Thanks for responding. I have always found him a handful, but no no wants their child to have extra difficulties, do they? I guess we wait and see now.

It can be an overwhelming time, but a diagnosis doesn't alter your child, but can give an insight into how best to help him. It's anecdotal, but my DS1(11) has ASD and he actually takes a lot of comfort in having his dx.

It's not an uncommon reaction, though it is incredibly frustrating. Are school supportive? What concerns do you have?

I'm in exactly the same boat. Ds was investigated for adhd about 6months ago and I was so happy that this was been done but the report states that he scores high but because of autism diagnosis a lot of his issues might be sensory. So we're back to square 1. A very hyper child and zero input.
So if he's been investigated try and get some input out of it. That's what u need.

What kind of input could there be jogalong? DS is pretty hyper physically and struggles to sit to learn to write or read. He also struggles to follow instructions and his teachers all say (nicely) that he is inattentive and lacks persistence and self organisation compared with his peers.

The input my ds requires is regular movement breaks throughout the day and deep pressure activities. His teacher has a schedule made out so before he is expected to sit at his work station he gets around 15 min of exercise. This can be done simply by a walk to the office to deliver a message. You should get therapy from an OT to help with ideas.
The other input we are now having to consider is medication. Believe me we are very reluctant about this but I guess when things become bad enough you realising might be your last resort.
