Has anyone recently applied for DLA?

Just wondering if anyone knows the current timescales? I've looked around the Internet but can't find much from 2016 at all. Seems in previous years it's taken anything from two weeks to the suggested eight weeks and beyond depending on when it was sent.

I also wonder if anyone else was daft enough to send it as late as I did. The date to return for backdate was 28th October, and I sent the form guaranteed next day on the 27th, which was signed for in Wolverhampton at 5:42am on the 28th, so I know they got it, but it seems the Wolverhampton office is some kind of sorting office. Would it be marked as received that day or would I have to wait for it to go to the right department, therefore missing the timescale for a backdated payment?

Also did you get any confirmation that your form was received/in the system or did you hear nothing until award/refusal?

First time applying so not sure if the eight weeks is a generous estimate or closer to reality.

Thanks

My experience is from the beginning of the year. Yes, I delayed and put it off until the last minute (think this might be quite common), sent it off two days before the back dating deadline (not signed for) and did get the back dating.
I got a letter very quickly confirming they had received the application and payments started within 4 weeks. In fact the first payment landed in my account before the letter arrived.
Good luck with yours.

Thank you Melawati I haven't had any confirmation yet, but I suppose it hasn't really been very long at all. It's more because I know it's been received by one department at least I was hoping to hear at least that they had it quite quickly. Four weeks is fairly quick for a decision though.

We applied in 2015 for 3yo DS, who didn't have a diagnosis of anything at the time, but was later diagnosed with ASD. I also left it really late (I cannot remember sorry whether it was bang on the deadline to backdate but it wouldn't have been far off) and we received the first DLA payment within less than 3 weeks. The payment was in our account before the confirmation letter arrived. I couldn't work out what it was - it showed up as DWP and it took me a while to twig.

I would ring them. Ask them to confirm receipt. Chasing down your post office signature is easier after 4 weeks than it is 8. Ask timeframes for it to be processed. Not an unreasonable question. And if you later need to quote, you can say Janet in team 3, on xx November said ..
none of this can do any harm.
Ring tomorrow.

Thanks all I received a letter this morning dated 4th November saying they had received the application on 28th October and were now considering all the information provided (that might take them a while)! Just pleased to know it's gone into the system on time. Letter also says not to contact them before 8 weeks has passed.

Just wanted to pop back in case anyone else is seeking information on the timescales at the moment, we received a payment this morning. No letter as yet but I think I've worked out Ds award from the amount. So exactly 3 weeks from posting to receiving.

That was received ours in over 8 weeks. It was complicated by wanting confirmation of my immigration status (I am an Irish citizen, but born outside of the EU). They lost the first copy of my passport, and requested another. I rang them and I do think Wolverhampton is indeed a big sorting office. I think it had been sent to the wrong dept and took another 3 weeks on top of that. I do know that they contacted my GP, but no other contacts (we listed Senco and cahms).

Dd received mid level DLA. It took us about 4 months to fill out the forms!
