Just found out today, DD isnt 3 until April but the very nice lady at the blue badge office said she,d ask our GP if they could send a letter approving one and they have.

This is wonderful

Need one for DS more though, today he got out of the car on the 3rd floor of a multi storey car park, ran to the railings and leaned right over, its a good job DH was with me and he got to him quick.

I nearly had a heart attack.

He,s 10 but he seems to be getting worse around roads/traffic, ill be needing a pair of reins at this point.

OMG Jen that's scarey. DS2 thinks running in front of cars is fun atm. Hope it's a phase. They have no sense of danger at all do they.

Wonder if you know the criteria for a blue badge? My ds is 2.1 and registered disabled as he has epilepsy. I suppose as it doesnt effect walking really its not serious enough to get one?

crazylazydazy- do you get DLA for your DS?
If you get the high rate than you will have no problems getting a blue badge, i would think you would be entitled to one for epilepsy as he could have a fit when out walking and be in danger.

can i just clarify that it has to be high rate for mobility, not personal care

but having said that , it's always worth pushing if you think he really does need one

i'm waiting for ds2's new badge to come through as it expired

great news. Interested to have heard that you can sometimes get a bb on lower rate mobility, would make so much difference atm...

I've been told that I dont need to get high rate mobility- you can apply witout. because I have two sn children (DS1- AS, gets higher rate care) and DS3 (ASD< not applied for DLA as yet but will) I may well get a badge as they can take the two into account.

So worth a go.

I think it all depends on your local council. They all take higher rate mobility as good enough (which is why I'm applying for mobility first) but local to us if you don't get higher you have to go to an assessment centre which can be miles away, and by repute it's a pretty unpleasant process. It's a right PITA - if only they would just write to the GP (or rather one of DD1's specialists - the GP is a bit out of the loop, really)

That's great news Bethron so nice when things happen to make life easier! How old is your ds? I think mine maybe too young as only 2.2yrs.

Hi, I'm new here but have been lurking for a while, I have a just turned 2 year old DS with cerebral palsy, he's not walking although he started crawling on his birthday - a fantastic present!! I just wanted to say that I was told to apply 6 weeks before he turned 2. I did and he got his blue badge the week after his birthday. He gets middle rate DLA and I didn't need to supply any other letters, just fill in the form. I has made such a difference, especially as I am 7 months pregnant with SPD!!
Sorry for the ramble...

Thanks Bethron, I must look into this. DS so well at the moment, but best to be prepared.
Hi HairyMaclary, wow you have a lot on your hands! Thats lovely to hear your DS walked on 2nd birthday!! Am surprised it only took 7 weeks to get badge, thats really good. Will make all the difference when your LO is born. I get middle rate too so am going to have to get off my backside and apply! All the best with your pregnancy
