The paediatrician has recommended I use these to support DS's communication and understanding, but I'm a totally clueless. Where do I start? Can anyone recommend any resources, websites, books, apps I can use to get started?

I'm very surprised, given that the paed recommended it to you, that they haven't offered you a place on a SALT course or similar. We have just started PECS and visual timetables within the last month after attending a 4-week NHS SALT course. It was amazingly helpful! Maybe something worth asking if they offer?

The waiting list for SALT is very long in my area (up to 12 months at the moment).

There is an official, branded pecs website. I bought the a5 size plastic ring binder and extra inserts. Then I took photos of everything that was part Of DS' world: different foods, toys, people, places, buildings, things like the potty, bath, bed etc. I got these printed in Jessops credit card size, and laminated them. Then put sticky Velcro on the backs. Then we moved through the stages of pecs to teach it.
