My DD is staring in an unit. She is looking forward and I think we have made the right decision.

Has anyone done this? What changes did you see? Pros, cons?

It's difficult because different schools run their SEN units very differently so difficult to generalise.

A couple of things that ds2 found very odd when he moved from a mainstream to an SEN unit was (i) the large number of adults in the classroom (so that it ended up being quite noisy despite the small number of children) and (2) the fact that there was a wide range of ages and abilities.

Pro's for him was a very good TA and a personalised, mainly practical based curriculum that enabled him to learn despite his anxieties and demand avoidance.

Thank you for your reply one

Didn't think of extra level of noise due to lots of Staff.

I just hope she will settle and enjoy there.
