Hi, am looking for advice as not sure who we can talk to.

Ds got diagnosed a few weeks ago now with asd at the age of 12. (Year 7)

We are meeting with the senco this week to give report and discuss. However I don't really know what we need if anything.

Ds is quite academic so is ok there. No obvious issues elsewhere that I am aware of. (In school)

Did you just know what support, if any your child needed or were you guided by senco or what. Or do some kids just don't need anything extra in school.

Ds actually scored in the autism range in his ADOS scoring in all domains of communication but asd range for ADI. Should we be pushing for speech therapy?

Thank you

I agree. IT would be beneficial for an EP to look at him in school and identify any barriers to learning his ASD presents and advise strategies for support.

Eg, a child with communication difficulties may struggle with certain areas of English like reading comprehension (specifically inferring from text) and creative writing. They may not of course that's just an example based on my experience with DS (same age and dx!) but wher there are specific difficulties recommendations of support can be made.

Thank you. I was just not sure what we could expect so it's nice to know an educational psychologist is another option to figure things out.
