Anyone got any experience of seeking treatment from a child psychologist for behavioural problems - did it help?
Would it muddy the water for ADHD assessment?
DS is on waiting list for ADHD assessment. Behaviour has got worse at school, more aggressive. At screening appointment the nurse said "it's not screaming ADHD at me" but referred us for full assessment so it can be ruled in or out. I've rung to chase the appointment and was lucky enough to speak to the nurse who did his screening and he won't be seen until November/December. She agrees it could be behavioural/emotional and perhaps he just can't cope with some element of school life (he is much better at home).
I am seeing a child psychologist privately next week for an initial appointment to see if they can help. School educational psychologist has a full caseload and is not taking on new cases. Nurse said they recommend not starting anything like that as it muddies the water for the assessment, but acknowledged that another 6 months is a long time for a child (or indeed anyone) to feel like a failure at school and become increasingly isolated from their peers.
Any advice?
