Worried about ds. Should we get CAMHS support?

After a meeting with senco today it is clear my ds (11) needs more support / understanding he is withdrawing more from school life he is anxious and resistant to change and is not socialising at all. He is awaiting appts for ASD assessment. But dh and I are wondering if more intervention regarding his mental health is required as well. He is completely resistant to doing anything sociable outside his family, he won't join school clubs, wears ear defenders to block out the noise and chaos of his peers, he considers the teachers his allies, so if he feels rejected or in their bad books it destroys him. I am very worried about him and need help to bring him out of his shell of negativity and fear.

Not joining clubs and finding peers noisy, chaotic and bloody annoying isn't something I would worry about. It sounds like he needs work on confidence and self-esteem. For my ds helping him develop his sense of humour has helped. Dawn Huebner's 'What to do when you grumble too much: A kids guide to overcoming negativity' might be helpful (and possibly better quality CBT than you'll get from CAMHS).
