DD (9) really doesn't have any friends, and i think she has got Aspergers - anyone with any experience of this?

I am just realising that my DD doesn't really have any friends at school - she has a dx of learning difficulties and general learning delay - she was assessed for asd when she was 7 but it came back with not enough positive 'evidence' for an ASD dx.

When my DD was in foundation, her teacher told me that she thought she had Aspergers which I was devastated about and then after the assessments i put it to one side,... but now the gap between my DD and her classmates is definitely widening and i do think that my DD probably does have Aspergers...

I feel hopeless about the situation, we have chidren back for playdates , and she goes to lots of clubs, brownies, drama etc - but she has not got a proper friendship circle - she never gets Birthday party invites... :(

she is absolutely lovely and kind and caring in lots of ways and she gets on with adults but when it comes to children of her own age - she struggles, she can fall out with other children, and she doesn't she their point of view and is not flexible,...

I've often thought that some kids look at her like shes an alien

i just do not know what to do next - especially as she starts secondary school in sep 2017... Should i go back to the Paediatrician for another assessment?

Does anyone know if there are classes/clubs specifically for social skills ? My friend said maybe she should go to a school for special education needs ...? We are in the Midlands.

Any advice appreciated. TIA

Hi Josben I have seen you around on here before I think?

I have a Dd with Asd/ Aspergers, most proffs diagnose Asd now rather than Aspergers.

Does your Dd want to have friends? Or is she ok being on the edge of things!

I think you would be wise to find out if she needs a diagnosis before secondary school! It can be very tough for undiagnosed children.

At some point in her life she will mainly mix with adults so if she finds children her own age hard work its not the end of the world unless she is desperate to have friends!

My Dd was too tired to cope with friendships outside school when she was in school but now that she is home ed she is more interested in making/having/keeping friends.

Dr Monsen isn't doing his practice any favours by paying to spam the SN boards. I wouldn't touch him with a bargepole after your behaviour here today Angry

You are bumping old threads about people's real life children to spam the SN boards. You/Dr Monsen - are the ones who are strange if you think this is a good way to drum up business.
