If you google "ipsea" and go to the ipsea website it will tell you everything you need to know. An ehcp is a new type of statement of special needs really.

The Children and Family's Bill 2014 put a new SEN Code of Practice in place in England (I think Wales as well), part of which was to replace a Statement of Special Educational Needs with an Education Health Care Plan.

What do you want to know about them ?

I don't know a lot about Scottish Education except that it is different in so many ways from English Education - and I've learned most of that knowledge from MN Grin

EHC plans are really no different from statements - I'm going through it now and although the layout is the same, the fundamental principles are the same, ie - sets out the child's needs and the provision to meet those needs. The appeal process is similar too, having had two appeals under the old system.

they are replacements of the 'statement of SEN'. There were no statements in scottland and I don't think you have EHCPs either. I think they are only for England

There's a few other differences with statements, probably most significant is they run from birth to age 25. Also the assessments are supposed to be more joined up & have to have contributions from the young person + parents, education, health & care services. They are expressed in terms of outcomes e.g. "By the end of reception X will be able to move independently on the floor" or "By the end of Year 6 Y will be able to make herself understood by staff and peers", then what are the services needed to achieve that. And, significant in England, the legislation applies to all schools including academies & free schools.

Still in the process of getting one for my DS so we'll see if they are they are cracked up to be!
