My DS (26m) has got GDD in all areas but mainly walking and speaking. He currently attends a mainstream preschool 2 mornings a week and has been invited to one of the other children's birthday party. As this is the first party he's been invited to do you think it will be acceptable for me to stay and keep an eye on him or do you think I should trust the organiser to keep an eye

I still stay with my 4 yr old who has no issues at all - he still needs me there - I wouldn't be comfortable leaving him on his own. Also a few of the parents in my 6 yr old's class stay at parties including me

If your child is only 2 then if imagine the parents of the birthday child would be very surprised if you just dropped him and left. Your child probably needs help going to the bathroom etc

I would definitely stay with a 2yo, regardless of whether they have SN. I started leaving my now 6yo when he was 4/5 but I wouldn't leave my 4yo who has SN at a party.

I wouldn't take him if I couldn't stay. Luckily it's never cropped up as an issue as my 7 year old with ASD has never been invited to any parties. My NT daughter (9) needed me to be there up to about 5/6.

I think the parent hosting would expect parents to stay as the children are very young. I only started to leave my dd (nt) at parties at around 5/6. I would rsvp and let host know that it's ds first party so you will be staying. Hope he has fun.
