Ds is 8, autism and SLD, his speech is improving but he communicates on his terms! I have been trying for a long time to get him to reply when asked "what is your name?" - if you point to a picture or him and say "who is that?" he will answer with his name but if asked his name he doesn't answer. UNTIL NOW !!! I just walked in to the living room and said who is sitting on the sofa - he answered with his name!!!!!!!

Small steps but so rewarding when they "get it".

Happy new year, I celebrating tonight!

Hi I am just new to the site and found your post. That is brilliant! My youngest son has down's syndrome and just before Christmas day he stood up by himself for the first time so I kinda know the proud and happy feelings you're bound to have had!
