Aspergers/learning to drive

Hope you can help. My 17 year old brother is learning to drive. He has aspergers, albeit very mildly. He has now had over 40 hours of lessons and still hasn't driven on the roads. He says he doesn't know when to stop or how much to steer. We are wondering if he will ever get it and if there's anything we can do to help. He's a very literal mind, when his instructor said to brake 10m before stopping he wasn't sure how far it was so spent days with a tape measure trying to work it out.

Have a look here, ditch that instructor and trial a lesson with someone who knows how to communicate with a client with AS and can give instructions your DB can understand.

Good Luck!

Find a sympathetic and patient instructor who will take the time to explain exactly what is what. DS1 is dyspraxic and dyslexic and the instructor he had was very patient - DS passed 1st time. DS2 is AS and will start lessons next summer so shall try same instructor. What was really useful was to discuss with the instructor DS's needs before the first lesson and meet the instructor periodically for an update.
