Suspected Sensory Processing Disorder in 12 yr old

Advice/support much needed for a newcomer to this field. Hard to know where to start - let's just say DD has had behavioural problems all her life, and previously has had 2 school referrals to CAMHS which haven't got us any closer to diagnosis.

She's in Yr 7 now, and the SENCO / home support worker think she might have Sensory Processing Disorder.

She hates touching paper, the feel of rugs and bus seat material, the sound of the wrapping on her school sandwiches. Other things I've noticed include flinching when I hug her, wearing wooly jumpers in height of summer, not knowing how to tell if she's full after eating. There's more but my head is spinning trying to understand it.

She is top of class in almost every subject so school won't refer her to an educational psychologist. They're talking about referring her back to CAMHS but after the last 2 times I really don't want to go back.

I've got an appointment with the Doctor to ask for a referral to a paediatrician. I've started reading 'Too fast, too loud, too bright..' and now think I may have Sensory difficulties myself!

Any recommendations for where in London to go for assessment/diagnosis? Advice on reading/process much appreciated.

As a side, her behaviour is appalling and I've been struggling with her for years. Feel bad for even writing that. When she's happy and gets one to one time she's a delight and then I can't believe there's any issues at all.

Hi Polter, thanks for reply. I've had a good read through the thread and looked at the links, thanks for highlighting. It still seems a bit advanced for me but I'll post over there too for some advice.

Not off the markmark at all, it has been mooted before but not really investigated by CAMHS at all. What makes you think that?
