School exclusion

My DC was excluded from school on Friday for 5 days
Child has a statement and a whole time 1-1
I am reluctant to put too much detail because I don't want to out myself but it was relatively minor so far as I can tell. I have not been given much detail

I have battled with school all year over their approach and the HT has got very nasty and personal
Last week I said we wanted to move schools and now we gave the exclusion
I have written an appeal but am not convinced the governors would ever go against the HT
Does anyone have any advice
TIA

This is not relevant at all but I have been shocked by how easily the HT will lie. He should be professional but he will say anything

5 days seems a very long time. What is his history, has he had exclusions before? Did they follow their correct procedures, including any adjustments required by his statement? How old is he?

Sorry for all the questions!
Its just that 5 days seems v serious, and with 1-1 support whatever happened shouldn't have escalated to such a degree.
Do you know how the incident happened? Was the support he was getting at that time appropriate? Something must have gone wrong, the school needs to look at what happened and why.

I have been lied to by a HT and sencos Iam!! Its all about arse covering usually. I would ring your statementing officer and tell them what has happened and ask them to find another placement for your child.

Also speak to IPSEA about the exclusion to find out if it is lawful!

Sorry you are having to deal with this Sad Flowers

5 days for a first exclusions sounds v disproportionate, depending on what he did.
Has the school adequately explained to you what happened, how it was dealt with, how they tried to diffuse the situation etc?

I think you are right in going to appeal, governors dont always side with the HT.
I'm sure you can go above them if they don't deal with it fairly.
And do contact ipsea asap. They aren't always easy to get hold of, so try asap.

I think you clearly need to question how the incident leading to the exclusion happened when the one to one was there, and how come she wasn't able to head it off. There is a clear potential disability discrimination issue here that needs to be explored.
