Hello,
We are also considering both Mossbourne Community Academy and the new Mossbourne VP (both in Hackney) for our son who has autism and MLD. Is there any parent out there with experience of either school? Many thanks in advance for any input on this.

Interested in this also. From what I've heard op, mossbourne is very, very strict. No talking in the hallways or you get detention sort of thing. I struggle to see how my dc (going through the process of dx but I guess pretty high functioning and v sensitive) would cope in this environment, despite probably liking the structure and routine.

I wonder if the vp campus is a little bit different?

I've heard there is some good support for students at Haggerston School (also in hackney). We are a few years off yet, but I'm also keeping an ear out for info also.

There was a burst of publicity a few years ago when they tried to limit the number of children with SEN they took - reports here and here. I hope their attitude to SEN has improved by now.

Thank you for flagging up these very interesting articles; hopefully some parents with SEN kids out there will join this thread.

I have no experience of either of those schools but do have experience of a very strict academy, Dd3 has Asd and she has been in a constant state of anxiety throughout yr 7, the discipline procedures are way to strict for her and she is in fear all the time of the dreaded negative which leads to a detention!

If your Asd child needs to be in an environment which can flex and bend to accomodated their needs then be mindful that strict routine and rules might suggest an orderly environment but it can also lead to fear and anxiety!

Also be mindful of size, the school I am talking about has 1400 students and is way to big for an anxious child!

Good luck Flowers

Thank you.

Any parents out there with direct experience of either school?
