Dont all reception kids take part in the xmas play?

I think they are supposed to. They might not necessarily get a 'part' but should still be in the choir. DS was in his reception play but because it was performed in the local church instead of school he could only do one performance instead of 2. This was because school refused to take him anywhere off site unless i accompanied him as he needed 2:1 (he is a runner).
At the school where i work the kids that are in the choir don't dress up they just wear a white PE t-shirt with their school trousers but they all stand up to sing so everyone can see them and see that they are in it.

Was DD the only one not in it?

fairgame - thanks.. I was a bit dumb and in the middle of everything else, I forgot to ask the teachers what was happening with the play. Its only when I saw the pictures on facebook, it dawned on me that I should have checked. I dont know if she was the only one not in it. But before I go and ask the Class Teacher, I thought I will ask what the norm is. I must have missed some letter there, because I got no invite for the play either.

DS didn't have a xmas play every year when he was in ms but when they did then the whole class was in it.
Definitely not on to exclude one child and it's a bit weird even if they exclude a small group.

They probably didnt have it then... I always (mistakenly) thought it happened for all reception kids...

Was it a class play or a school play?

I might have misunderstood you. I thought you meant it was a class play in which case they should all be in it. If it's a school play (some kids out of each class) then that's different.
Some of the larger schools near me don't do a play for each class every christmas. Some of the classes would miss the xmas play and do an easter play then i think in year 3 they didn't do a play at all that year.
Just ask them there might be a reasonable explanation. DD has ABA tutors in as well doesn't she so they might have said something if she was unfairly left out.

Some schools alternate year groups. However, surely you know from the photos if it's the children in your child's year or not?

I would make 100% sure whether it happened or not and if it did I would be wanting answers. Its totally and completely unacceptable.

Our local school is very, very good with children who have additional needs, so attracts quite a few families to the area. There are always at least 3 children with obvious sen's in the school play, and probably many more whose needs are less obvious. Of course this results in assistants, walkers, all sorts of things on and off the stage, but it's brilliant to see everyone being included. One boy had a solo last year, he decided to totally change the words on the night and take (hidden in his robes) a fake moustache/glasses combo and proceed to put them on and sing another song. He's a little imp as well as having SN's! . Poor love is going to find the senior school a bit dull I think!

fairgame - yes it a big primary school on two sites, and that is why I wanted to ask here before asking the CT. I have asked the tutors too.

ChippingIn - the photos are of my friends' kids in other schools :) That was a trigger for this lazy mum
