residential schools - do the children become looked after by local authority?

Looking at suitable school for my disabled son. Not much locally once we get to secondary age that will meet his needs.

How do residential schools work in terms of the child's legal status?

Many seem to be school and attached children's home.

Does that mean your child has to become a looked after child?

How does that work if a weekly or fortnightly boarding pattern?

So much to consider and as much as I want the right school for my boy, I don't want to have to put him into care of local authority.

I'm his mum and I want to stay his mum.

Any one been here or can tell me where to research online?

No, they wouldn't need to become looked after just for this reason.

It's not really any different than sending your DC to boarding school.

There's some info here that you might find helpful.

Good luck flowers.
