worried about my son's attention skills

Hi

I have a son who has a very severe speech and language delay, 15 words,. He is four years old and having a re-assmemet of autism, which he most probably would be diagnosed with.

I'm really worried about his attention skills. If I ask him a question, which he knows the answer too, he would either look at me and not respond or would purposely give me the wrong answer. ( Even though he knows the correct answer).

It seems that he has good attention skills when it hits the afternoon, but in the morning his attention is aloof.

I'm actually worried as won't behave like his normal self when he will be reassessed for autism, as the assessment starts at 8am! and it will take us about an hour and half to get to the clinic...though I guess this is a good thing as he may be offer more help.

I did want to change his assessment time. But the doctor said that I will have to wait 6 months for another appointment.

Is my son's lack of attention skills due to his autism and how can I increase his attention.

Thanks

Plus, if he wants my attention and I avoid eye contact. He would literally shout and move my face towards his.

Just like now, he practically ran to me to show me something on TV and God forbid if I ignore him. He would then start crying.
