After a long time on the waiting list we are seeing the educational psychologist tomorrow.

He's always struggled at school, delayed speech and language skills. He is very behind academically (1c's at end of year2).

This term has been really tough. He's been excluded 4 times for physical assault on an adult. We have camhs involved and behaviour support in school have put structured things in place in the class. But he just won't do as he's told!! Then lashes out when he has to do something. He throws things around the class, kicks things, and others. He is very angry a lot at home too. He missed the opportunity to go on a residential trip because the school wouldn't take him. He didn't care. Seems to have no remorse at all.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? I'm hoping the ep will say there is something so we can get extra help because the school say they can't afford extra help!!!

Look forward to your thoughts
X

TBH I would go to your GP and ask for a referral to a developmental paediatrician.

Research the symptoms of ADHD, ASD, PDA, Dyspraxia and anything else you think might be helpful and write down every symptom that you can give a real life example of, and write that down too.

Don't try and diagnose, just make an honest, evidenced list of anything that strikes you as fitting your ds. Give that list to the GP with your request and make sure that the GP knows the school have brought in an EP and CAHMS and behaviour support.

It's a school's duty to provide for ALL of its children, not just the cheap ones. If they are having financial problems they need to hire an accountant or moan to the LA, not to you.

Apply for a statement on behavioural needs - the school really should be doing this but it sounds as if they are useless do it yourself (see IPSEA website for model letter). We got one for both ds1 and ds2 (similarly lots of exclusions) even though they are academically above average.
