Private Ed Psych in the Kingston Area Please - Dyslexia?

Hi. I suspect my 12 yo 'NT' son actually has dyslexia but copes well with it most of the time. He is not currently receiving extra help at school so I will have to assess privately.

Can someone please recommend a good private educational psychologist in the Kingston-Upon-Thames (Surrey) or SW London area?

Thanks.

Denise Thornton is good for those kind of things. Writes killer reports. A bit expensive though as legal firms use her a lot.

Thank you. Apparently she doesn't accept direct contact from parents.

If it's not for tribunal, then I'd recommend Dyslexia Action. They are very good for the diagnosis and there should be a branch somewhere near you.

Thank you, I'll look into that.

Dr Lindsey Peer has been highly recommended by a few parents I know
She's in Watford, if that's close enough.

I used Lindsey for Tribunal - she is very very good for Tribunal work but is very very expensive (roughly 4 times the amount of Dyslexia Action). I went first to Dyslexia Action when it looked as though my DS could be supported in his original mainstream school. But a few years later, after the school had been struggling big-time and I was refused Statutory Assessment by the LA, I then went to Lindsey.

She definitely contributed towards my Tribunal "win" of getting my dyslexic DS into an indie specialist dyslexia school.

So, in my experience, based on cost alone, it really depends what you need with regard who you go to - diagnosis or help with a Tribunal.

There's Bernadette Page who is based in Twickenham. Also fairly expensive, though.

Hello, have you tried posting on either/both the Kingston or Surrey Local talk boards?

Good luck with it all.

Thank you all. CherryEmma, I was unaware of those boards. I'll pop over and take a look. It is just for a diagnosis. Hopefully my days of tribunals are over!
