This newsletter is put together by a woman who has OCD (I think!), I'm not sure that she isn't also the mother of a child with SN. It is an amazing project, full of great info, I just don't know how she manages to do it, she says its therapy! I strongly recommend it:

POSITIVE ASPECTS

Positive Aspects is a free new bi-monthly email bulletin, which is for anybody who has an interest in any disability, mental health issue and/or illness who live anywhere in England*. It is packed full of useful items, law, events, holidays, benefits, requests what’s on, true stories, other interesting articles, useful websites and computer tips, putting people in touch and much more. It also comes with a separate ‘diary dates’ attachment and to keep you up to date with what’s happening in your area, regular Positive Aspects ‘Newsflash’ articles are sent out regularly.

To subscribe, please send an email to [email protected] with subscribe and the county you live in, in the message/text of the email.

  • People who live outside England are welcome to receive Positive Aspects, but must be aware that some of the articles re: law, benefits etc., might not apply to them.

I know this lady - she has two children with SN - and started up a parent group called LOADS - local opportunities and awareness of down syndrome - fabulous lady!! Yes and she also has OCD as you think - from memory.

She has handed over the reins of LOADS mag and obviously onto different things.

Thanks for that DAVROS - will email and ask to be on the list.

Eidsvold, I'm so glad you posted that you know and admire this woman. I sent this info to a couple of other people and one replied saying that she was suspicious about the whole thing. How could someone have so much time and will to do this? Why was she inviting donations in the second newsletter? She is asking for a lot of email addresses, was she going to do anything untoward with them?
I decided to ignore all this although I started to wonder if I was being naive. You can't deny the huge amount of work and info in the newsletter and that's got to be worth me giving my crappy yahoo email address I think.

davros she used to compile the journal for the parent group, organise the car boot sales to raise funds for the group, be secretary of the committee, organise social events etc - so very driven with very supportive family. Her children will all be in school in September so she will have more time then. I know she has passed over some of the work of the ds parent group - especially compiling the quarterly journal which used to take up a lot of time.

She has sent me the second one and it looks fab.... even the odd thing we can refer to - but I imagine it would be very helpful if you were in the UK - lots of info and references to sites etc that would be very helpful.

Yes, I thought it was great and loads of info I knew nothing about, even though I'm the Queen of Newsletters! I'll stop worrying about it and help spread the word.
