Not in Shrewsbury, but am in Shropshire.

What age child do you have and are they HF or moderate/severe?

Definitely no specialist provision in Shropshire LA area for girls ( and only provision for boys is from 8-16 and that is privately run but many places funded by LA) who are high functioning - not sure about Telford and Wrekin as separate LA area.. Most HF children with ASD muddle along in Mainstream schools with/without support. At Secondary age the LA are currently looking at putting ASD Hubs on sites of mainstream schools - no details of which schools yet or how that will operate.

Children with more severe needs might be allocated a place at Severndale Specialist school which is a school which covers a whole range of LD (ASD included) from age 2 1/2 - 19.

Autism West Midlands operate a range of support services in the area which are funded by the LA so it may be useful to contact them for more information.

There are also a range of leisure activities available through the Short Breaks scheme called All-In and this newsletter (latest one due out shortly) will give you a flavour of the sorts f activities on offer for those children who find it difficult to access mainstream activities.

There is also a parent support group called Spectrum based in Shrewsbury - they may be the people who could give you an honest answer about which mainstream primary schools parents/children have had good experiences with and which to avoid. Spectrum

Sorry I can't give any info about the Telford and Wrekin area - which is only just down the road from Shrewsbury, but if you want info about that area then the Parent Forum PODS should be able to help.

But basically, if you are looking for Specialist Educational Provision for a child with HF ASD I would say that Shrewsbury is not the place to be. hmm although it is a lovely town smile
