ID Bands... a good idea?

DD 5.6 has severe Speech and Language Disorder (along with Developmental Delay, possible sensory impairment and anxiety).

I've been looking at ID bands similar to MedicAlerts for diabetics, allergies etc. I can't decide if they're a good idea or not. If she ever did wander off or get lost (unlikely as I keep her very close at all times) she would not be able to communicate much other than her name. If she had an alert band with our contact details, she would be safe.

I can't decide if they're worth it or not. I'm not sure if it would label her iyswim. I wouldn't have considered one for my other DCs but at this age they knew their names / address. DD would probably never get lost - and then I start thinking 'what if...'

Sorry for rambling. The SEN journey has been really hard and I'm still getting my head around it all.

I was thinking the same thing. I bought one but haven't used it yet as I didn't feel right about it and my son is still just 3 and wears reins when out. . The one thing I have done is get one of these car seat id band incase we ever had a car accident, it would tell anyone removing him from his seat that he has autism and is non verbal. You can get them for normal seatbelts too. Even that made me feel a bit weird. Interested to hear if other people are using the ID bands. My little one has extremely sensitive wrists too so I think it would just drive him crazy.x

I always write my mobile number on my kids' arms when we're on holidays in theme parks, on the boat etc just in case they wander. I did get some id bands once in a magazine but they didn't like them on their wrists, it can be useful though to be able to add some info like having autism rather than just a phone number.

The seatbelt ID is a good idea. I know what you mean whenwill for me, it makes DDs problems real which, if I'm honest, I'm finding difficult. But I'm fighting so hard to get an NHS diagnosis that I'm facing different realities all the time. If that makes any sense at all.

I've used the free bands before and they've caused irritation. The bands I was looking at online were pretty bracelets, silicone bands and knotted fabrics which might be more comfortable.

Has worn his since he was 6 and not very verbal at all.. he's now verbal but would be incomprehensible if he were lost and anxious (and he's 15) He wears a simple bracelet and it is just part of him now:)
