My ds isn't doing so well I'm hoping the LA will get it done quickly?
How long did your SA take please?

We are in the middle of SA too. They have given everyone six weeks to make their assessments and get in their reports so certainly won't be shorter than that! On the information we have been sent it says 26 weeks from original request.

20 weeks here, from first letter to naming my preferred special school.

It's 26 weeks, not 12. The timescales are laid down in SEN law. Sometimes they are accomplished more quickly, but you'd be remarkably lucky to get it done in 12 weeks, sorry :(

Request was made in September 2012

Initial appointment with Assessment Centre was in Jan 2013.

Actual full assessment takes place on June 19th.

9 months for us Sad

Concur with everyone else - the legal timeframe is 26 weeks, but, in our authority - like OWYJ, I know that most take longer. They are just overwhelmed.

we got the final statement after 25/26 weeks but had to appeal. took about 16 months to get a statement we were happy with.

Thanks everyone. I won't get my hopes up for it to be quicker then!

We're in the process of SA too.

We're at the 'gathering evidence' stage which is supposed to take ten weeks. The appointment we've been given to see the paediatrician isn't until week 11 so I guess we'll be running over Sad.

Parental statutory request made on 23 March 2012.
LA has accepted an offer of place for our DC at an independent specialist school and is naming it in part 4; I got this news on 2 May 2013.

So all in all about 13 months from start to finish.

Parental SA request (with school backing) made at beginning of January 2012. LA refused March 2012. LA conceded weeks before Tribunal hearing in September 2012. Draft Statement issued Winter 2012. Final Statement issued February 2013 with no provision at all for DS's 2 severest needs and inappropriate provision for other needs. Tribunal will be in two months time. So 18 months from start to end.
