We have just come home with her.

She is extremely constipated, they took an xray and it was shocking, the whole of the colon was full of faeces and she had a big lump sticking out on the left hand side of her stomach.

We have taken her to see the GP at least 2 times in the last week re this and the suppositries havent worked so this was our last option.

Hospital suppositries do work though!!!

And we have a prescription for Movicol so will have to see how she goes along with that.

Poor thing i feel so sorry for her Sad

Movicol is fantastic jenk1. My ds was put on it after a year of constipation problems. It was the only thing that worked. It can be heart-breaking watching them try to poo, can't it? Check if your hospital has a constipation clinic. That way you can get advice on managing it all.

Hope she keeps going!

Thanks for all your kind messages, DD is 2 and has had constipation problems since she was newborn, today the Consultant Pead told us that it is more than likely due to her CP that is slowing her bowels down.

We are at the CDC next month so i shall be asking them for info on this.

this was one of the things that I just didn't realise about CP. DD has suffered with constipation since she was a baby as well. seems to be managed now. she is on senna and lactulose. If we have a couple of days when she doesn't go we use trigger foods. for her they are rhubarb/orange sqash/spaggetti(tinned) and fruit smoothies. She's 11 and all this has pretty much controlled it.
don't know if that helps at all!

Oh jenk, you have my sympathies as DD had exactly the same problem a year ago - same sort of Xray too. You feel so helpless when they are in so much discomfort. It was the combination of hospital suppositories followed by an ambulance transfer which spared us the ordeal of the op. Things were positively volcanic by the time we reached the second hospital!

She was given Movicol too and it's been great this past year. Yes, we've been able to reduce the dose slightly but were warned it was better to keep on it and keep things soft/regular to prevent a repeat. So far so good! I hope it works as well for your DD too as it seems to get good results. Take care.
