Ds's Annual Review Today.....more tears

Happy ones though today grin.

Picture the scene, large meeting room, ds ,me, dh, his teacher, SALT, LEA inclusion officer and Connexions facing a wall covered in paper where everyone is expected to contribute their thoughts and feelings.

Ds who was pretty much mute when he started there was an absolute star he spoke probably as much as me and certainly more than LEA and Connexions.

He answered questions from all attending even though he doesn't know LEA or Connexions no writing notes, none of the default answers that he sometimes relies on. He pretty much led the way voicing his thoughts and opinions on what he had done and what he wants to do from now on.

He gave input into what sort of timetable he wants next year, what he wants to do at college during next year, suggested that school start a debating society (it will start in two weeks when Ds has chosen some topics ) for ILT one lunchtime per week (this from the boy who couldn't speak!)

He'd independently produced a power point presentation (not slideshow as Ds corrected me!) showing his achievements last year and it was great to see him in the midst of things laughing and interacting with his peers.

The LEA were undoubtedly impressed as we all were because ds went way beyond anything we could have expected. Connexions commented that he is like a different young man to the introverted boy he was last year.

Fingers crossed we have no problems with LEA although I'm not getting any bad vibes (they'd not sent Mr Ruthless Bastard which is a good sign) and there could be no question in anybody's mind that where he is is right for him and his statement really works.

I'll relax once we get confirmation that his statement will be maintained unchanged because of course you can never be sure with our LEA.

This from the boy whose target on his first IEP at the independent specialist school 18 months ago was to respond to hello with a smile/wave/ and later hello grin
