Makaton in Glasgow

My 2yo DD has significant hearing loss in both ears (glue ear for sure and they THINK an underlying neuro problem too). He speech is terrible, she struggles to follow instructions or questions, she cannot locate a sound (say a phone ringing nearby)... Feel a bit sad for her at times because she finds it hard to socialise with her peers.

She LOVES Mr Tumble and I'm looking for a Makaton group in Glasgow where she can meet other children. I'm a single mother on a low income so I can't afford a proper Makaton course. I have signed up with the National Deaf Children's Society though.

Any suggestions of informal Makaton meet-ups very gratefully received!

There used to be a communication group based in Paisley for all sn babies and toddlers. Dd2 was born at the RAH, assessed at York Hill, and had slt follow-up from birth. She wasn't expected to be verbal, so we did a parent makaton course v early.

It would probably be a good idea to chase down whoever does the slt provision in your area - they should know what courses and groups are on locally. We didn't pay at all. Completely free.

Makaton themselves do a DVD that dd2 loved, and you will soon be rapping goldilocks with the rest of the makaton mother club...
