I put a complaint in about SEN transport and their incompetence at sorting out my sons travel.(I had to take him eventually as he had already missed a week due to them).
Well they investigated and it's took them a month to come to the conclusion that they have done nothing wrong, have paid my expenses(they haven't) and the best bit ..please be aware that our service can withdraw the transport without any notice for any child and if you don't like our policies then we suggest you make alternative arrangements for xxxxxx.maybe a school within walking distance would save you the stress of having to deal with our department.
Now I'm spitting feathers.

Is transport in the statement? - I know it isn't usually but??
Take it up with the education department to liase with transport?

What needed sorting?

Strongecoffeeismydrug Mon 05-Nov-12 18:44:17

They decided at the last minute that they needed to employ another escort as 4 kids with challenging behaviour would need 2 escorts.
They didn't work that one out till the day before term started so they took three and left my little urchin off the route sad
It's all sorted now except if an escort is sick they said they have no spare and they need 2 so seeing as DS was the last to be added to the route whichever escort is off my child will be the one that's to be left at home.
When I dare to question the above I got the snotty reply of they can pull the service .......

Strongecoffeeismydrug Mon 05-Nov-12 18:55:32

The education dept will not get involved with transport as its not in his statement they said.
So looks like I'm going to have to get it added at his next review.getting his statement was easy, and I've had no battles getting it top notch with everything he needs(I'm very lucky I know) but what's the point in having a brill statement at a fab school if I can't get him to the bloody place .
Well touch wood his escorts will stay healthy smile

I'd put a stage 1 complaint into the council about that and copy to MP and councillors tbh. That sounds hopeless. And they shouldn't be snotty towards you.

zzzzz Mon 05-Nov-12 19:02:08

Who is in charge of "transport"?

saintlyjimjams Mon 05-Nov-12 19:06:30

It's a local authority department zzzz.

bochead Mon 05-Nov-12 19:11:44

Is there an individual charged with ensuring school attendance at your LA? (In mine the job comes under the remit of "attendance officer" or "educational welfare officer")

I'd send a copy of their response together with a brief polite explanation explaining why your child's attendance may fall below the optimum this school year in spite of your best efforts "to resolve the transport" situation. Copy your letter to your child's HT and local councillor.

Then I'd sit on my hands and let the internal politicos duke it out for a week or two amongst themselveswink.

At the next statement review you know what you have to do - but the letter should cover you until then.

Strongecoffeeismydrug Mon 05-Nov-12 19:12:41

The local council is in charge of transport and I did a stage one complain and they investigated, they now say I have no complaint as its my responsibility to get DS to school if they have no relief escorts.
My argument is if DS had to wait until an extra escort was employed then surly she's his,so if she's working and the other escort is sick DS should travel.but no it's not that simple because we did a mid term transfer of school DS is classed as an add on so will automatically be dropped from transport first grrr it's crazy

saintlyjimjams Mon 05-Nov-12 19:14:58

Stage 2 complaint? And MP and councillors?

Strongecoffeeismydrug Mon 05-Nov-12 19:16:40

I've already been in touch with EWOjidt to keep him on the loop,he's lovely on the phone but won't put anything in writing until DS attendance drops,it won't tho because I end up taking him it just means I can work that day and there's only so much my employer is going to take before I'm going to face disaplinery

bochead Mon 05-Nov-12 19:24:59

So long as you've put what's happening in writing to the EWO then you've done what you can.

Early statement review + stage 2 complaint?

I'm going into my 3rd year of unemployment cos of DS so can't help you there except to say that it's beyond miserable.

Strongecoffeeismydrug Mon 05-Nov-12 19:42:28

I'm sure I will get it sorted smile its just annoyed me today when I got their reply and when DS was dropped off the original escort (not the one employed later) told me she's just waiting for a date for an op and will be off at least 8 weeks, she said her boss said we have no spare arggg DS will have to be dropped while your recovering if no spare is found, even the escorts dont see why it should always be DS(he's an angel in the taxi and they don't know theyve got him) but they have to follow orders.
And I could always seek employment as a relief escort if I get the sack as they see
To have a shortage smile (only kidding I'm far too grumpy to be around kids on a morning smile)

inappropriatelyemployed Mon 05-Nov-12 21:00:05

Disgraceful attitude. Have you contacted your county councillor? Having worked with MPs, I have heard them say how they try to give 'all that LA stuff a wide berth'! hmm

You do have some protection under the law for your employment through the concept of 'associated' disability under the Equality Act. Please do let me know if I can help you with that at all. I am not an employment lawyer but I have written on the Equality Act

Strongecoffeeismydrug Mon 05-Nov-12 21:17:28

Cheers Everyone,I'm sure I will be able to keep my job,I've been there a long time and they are saints really compared to some employers,it's just frustrating more than anything.
DS is finally at a fab school, having a huge leap in his development, finally happy and I'm just on tender hooks that it could all go wrong.
I won't allow such a stupid thing as transport to affect how far he's come in such a short time so i will get it sorted ASAP.
