I am this morning at the end of a very long and slow battle.
Initially it was being stalled and I was devastated and heartbroken, but this morning following my emails and questions regarding the why's and wherefore's...this has now turned around completely.....

We have the go ahead to find and secure the specialist school for my DS....my headache has vanished, my grin is huge and I can't wait to start this new and positive future with my son....he will grow his wings....I'm so happy for him....

Please celebrate this wonderful news with us Grin

I have just signed up on this board and your post put a huge grin on my face!

So pleased for you, your family and your son.

It must have been a long, daunting and exhausting road; Well Done!!

May I ask what your son's special needs are?

Yesterday was devastating as the original panel decision was not clear...it wasn't a yes but it wasn't a no...my panic that it was going wrong and not the result we really need sent me into overdrive...I emailed madly to everyone, I poured my heart out and know it sounded desperate and maybe even a bit dramatic tbh...but it was an out pouring of emotion and forward thinking about the implications this negative result could create because of not securing the placement funding. I then gathered myself back, composed a business like direct questioning email and sent that one out around 6pm last night for the attention of the Chairperson on the Panel.

My head was raging and I finally got to sleep in the early hours. This morning before 9am...my house and mobile phones are ringing off the hook!!...check for emails, etc....eureeka...we are there...we have the YES.
I can't believe it has turned on a dime like this!!!!...amazing...what did I say? what did I add that made the difference?....honestly, I don't know...I'm just rejoicing the YES is here!!!

nostoppingme My DS has ASD and ADHD and Dyslexia, lots of sensory deficits, very restricted dietary issues and many other hand in hand area's of need. Unable to access his High school ms placement at all he has been at home ill since the beginning of term in August, following his primary years and string of failures, unsupported, bullied and assaulted, suicidal...you name it he has gone through it...
We have our light at the end of the tunnel...I'm so very very happy Grin

I'm thinking of starting a new thread so we can share our journey as this new brilliant chapter progresses for us and esp my DS.

Is this a good plan?...would it be interesting for others to follow our story as we move along?....I hope so

First will be our initial visit...I know what school I'm heading for....next week I hope

DS is totally on-side and we have started a list of questions and things to ask when we go to visit the school next week

  1. can I take my xbox?
  2. will they have the food I like?

3 who will I share my room with and do you think they will be able to put up with my snoring?
Grin

we are going to sit and look at the school website soon and have a good chat about things...pen poised to record his thoughts and questions

A blog?...I've never tried anything like this...will go and have a look at how I do it...sounds interesting

we have been looking at the photos of the school and things on the website...DS has just retreated...he is worried about 'the people' and 'the kids'...suddenly getting upset and saying he can't do it Sad

How to support him and get him even to visit if this is not going to go well from here....worried now....the reality is sinking in with him I think...panic with it Sad

Well done you. I have just requested my dd goes to a specialist school as part of her proposed statement, fingers crossed I get the same result as you and your family.

Again, well done to you and your family.

foxy ... I composed an 11 page statement for my DS which went forward to the Panel for decision making. Not saying you need to do this but I thought if you were interested and wanted, I could PM you and explain how I went forward with things for my DS?

Feel free to PM me Smile

Whatthe, so pleased for you that you have overcome this hurdle to getting the right placement for your ds. Well done for your persistence and persuasive powers.

Don't panic that ds is starting to worry about the change - he wouldn't be him if he didn't need time to get used to the idea of somewhere new and with everything he's had to face in the past only natural that he is wary.

Can you get any help from camhs with the transition? My ds found cbt helpful in preparation for move from mainstream to special school. Know it doesn't work for everyone but something to look into.

Anyway well done Wine congrats!

Thanks Pink...as long as I can get him into the car and make the journey door to door....the visit next week will happen!

we might have a locked car during the mission but we will get there...will he get out of the car when we get there...yet to be seen!! and just hoping they help us over the initial hurdle and over the threshold.....major achievement/challenge I think!
I'm looking forward to it though....can't wait to get connected iykwim
