Do i need to apply for SA? language difficulties

Hi, DS 6 has language delay and was diagnosed with word finding difficulties last year, report mentioned possible memory/ processing problems. He's had grommets in for 'glue ear'. I am concerned that he falling behind his peers at school and requested ed psych involvement. have been denied this, told that due to limited budget and children with more significant needs that it's not going to happen.

Have asked school for his NC levels as he's in year 2. writing/spelling was not to school curriculum level at the end of year 1 but he is now 1c, reading is at stage 4. Advisory teacher observed and has commented that he struggles with the use of every day language and is literal. He just doesn't get things like other children ad will constantly ask the same question again and again.

please can someone advise on whether I should apply for SA, or am I overreacting?

thanks

My ds has the similar difficulties and after waiting 18 months for school to request ep I gave up and applied for SA. We recently received a proposed statement and am currently trying to amend it. If you believe he needs more support then go for it, you have nothing to lose. We did get private salt reports and believe it has helped.

Thank you so much for replying cheesetoasty, it's lovely to hear that your ds is getting the support he deserves. I suppose i've just been hoping over the last year that ds will somehow catch up.

just been through the whole statementing battle with older ds and being made to feel guilty for requesting support for another ds with learning difficulties.

never let them make you feel guilty! you have had success once, you can do it again!

no other advice, except to say maybe speak to SENCo and see if any other referrals may lead you to get what you want. Is this ds on SA+ with the SLT input is there an IEP in place? Is it being monitored? Just wondering if it may be worth biding your time and collating info, paper trail ammo etc. before applying for SA?

Good luck and have a honk from me.
