Eating disorder assessment today at last

Update on dd is it has been a hard week.

Good news is she is still off the coke and still on the caffeine pulls and glucose and diazepam.

Bad news is she overdosed again early hours yesterday which resulted in me doing 90mph on phone to 101 who was getting ambulance to meet me half way. Had enough of this scary stuff now.

A&E discharged her at 9 am with a cup water saying there was no longer a reason for her to be there after seeing a psych for 30 secs who told her to ring sic former meds and make an appointment. So yes they discharged a suicidal anorexic on her own with nooner and no batt on phone.

Result in me getting there and dd in a state not wanting to leave hospital. so parked car in an annoyingly prominent spot and marched down to pals. They were appalled, GP was appalled when I phoned her and I was a wild woman shouting that she needs inpatient care now!

eventually with pals and gps help she has an assessment this afternoon. This had better go well as ds is putting all her hopes that they agree to admit her to ed place.

No money and no phone battery on her own.

I so hope that you and Dd get a satisfactory result this afternoon.

Re her discharge. How in the name of all humanity can they do that to anyone? What happens to those who don't have Coff species tiger mums fighting for them?

Hoping that you get a break from at least some of this soon.

I am keeping this brief as I can.

DD received DX of PTSD combined with anxiety and disordered eating and is now bordering depressive state.

Told she wouldn't meet criteria for eating disorder clinic as tbh they would have to apply for funding and wouldn't get it. Told yes she could be admitted privately but it would cost £600 a day.

Said due to complexity felt best to deal with one thing at a time and any help would be community based. Told do we realise that the success rate of going into inpatient care is actually very low as ppl start all I we again when they are released.

Suggestion?......... Told they would first get a dietician to provide an organised and balanced menu. Oh and in the meantime told DD she must try to protect herself from harm!

And so I lost it quite frankly as dd was beyond distressed. Asked how in the hell would a menu help if she won't eat. How do I make her so that and how can u sit there and tell her to protect herself when she is doing exactly that by asking you to admit her because she is beyond helping herself without support!

however since found out if she went to long reach for addiction side they could arrange dietician to advise and support but don't know if it would be MH dietician or an eating disorder one!

So I have asked for a second opinion based on her decision but said she will speak to team first and send a report in a week. If we are not happy then then we can req a second opinion.

Then I got all the crap of obviously this effects whole family and understand how mad I feel (which wound me up nicely as cant stand someone trying to butter me up) and said no u don't understand the fact that ds is complex and so is demanding, her 11yr old sibling shares a room with dd and its distressing her however much dd is trying to smile about it in front of her. And poor dd has to hold it together till 10 or 11 until ds asleep for me to even honour her with and ounce of support! Then thats me up till 3 or 4am then up again for kids. Not exactly the everyday calming household and yet you expect an unstable person to just plain protect themselves.

trying to get hold of addaction now and see if they will put referral through as even though she not taken for over 3 weeks maybe someone will have the brains there to work out the girl is in the wrong place.

All good fun

I started of thinking, "fantastic that you got a dx!" Finished off by thinking that they're selling you short. If I had the money, I'd send it to you, truly. My heart aches for you all. Sad

Ok, stay calm. Contact NHS eating disorder unit in London and ask briefly about pros and cons of in-patient. Then read this. Then ring their office and speak directly to the admin person who puts stuff together for panel. They may be your closest ally. One of my family members used to work in a very similar department (different county sadly) and spent her lunchtimes hassling consultants to do supportive letters for the most ill patients whose cases were going to panel

You may need to ask your nicest GP to give up an entire long weekend in struggling to send in one of the horrendous referral forms, either this or similar. But cross that bridge later.

Would you consider a referral to SS? Some of them can be really good, especially at this sort of stuff.
