WWYD? Holiday after hospital

Hi, been a tough week here.

DD (2.5 with Down's), was rushed to hospital last weekend. She spent 4 days in an isolation room whilst they pumped every type of antibiotic into her. Thankfully she has responded well to the antibiotics and the hospital allowed her to come home wednesday night to finish her antibiotics at home.

This is the 2nd time this month she's been hospitalised, Although the last time was only for a day for observations for URTI. On top of that, we're in the middle of trying to get DD statemented, so it's been a fairly stressful month!

Anyway, we're due to go on a cruise to Spain & Portugal on Tuesday (leaving from Southampton, so no flying involved). Her consultant & GP both think it would be good for her to go, as she would have finished her final course of penicillin by the time we go & the ship has a full medical team. They've even given us an emergency supply of powdered penicillin to give the ship doctor on the off chance she relapses.

I agree we really could do with some quality family time, away from all the hospital appointments, but I'm really nervous about taking her out of the country given how ill she's been.

I was wondering what you would do, would you take her on holiday?

I would go on holiday; you all need a break.

Also I see that your DDs consultant and GP have thought it would be good for her to go.

Hope you have a lovely time on the cruise boat.

Oh dear God go woman. I understand your concern but.....you no doubt deserve it and your DD will benefit from your recharged batteries.

You're right, I am being an over protective mum Blush.

Had someone from the Health Protection Agency call about an hour ago to say the hospital had reported my DD and wanted to know exactly who we'd been in contact with for the past 2 weeks, (she was admitted to hospital with suspected measles & meningitis), but they've just called back to say that they've checked all her medical notes and don't think she presents a health risk to anyone anymore, so we're good to go.

Hurray - looks like we are actually going on holiday.

It is only natural that you will be anxious about going but if the medical advice is go.....then go... and have an absolutely fantastic time.
