IndigoBell support thread

I see from another member that Indigo Bell has been banned from MN. I would just like to say that it was her advice that led me to look into help for my DD. Without that I truly believe she would not have made the advances she has.

Indigo's views mat not have been proven scientifically, but she certainly helped open many people's eyes to alternative ways of helping their children. People could choose to listen or ignore as they wished. She always took time to help people who were stuck and frustrated. I miss her and MN is a poorer place without her.

AT the top of this page Our SN area is not a substitute for expert advice. While many Mumsnetters have a specialist knowledge of special needs, if they post here they are posting as members, not experts.
So I propose that MN reconsiders. Please.

Has MN explained their decision yet? Am off out for the school run now, but want to register my support for indigobell

Badvoc Tue 18-Sep-12 15:14:25

Me too.
Ridiculous decision by MNHQ.

spiritsam Tue 18-Sep-12 15:14:27

Why was she banned ?
Have seen lots of useful info from her .

Tiggles Tue 18-Sep-12 15:14:44

What????
I have IndigoBell to thank for getting DS1 onto the Apples and Pears spelling programme (which appears to be recognised by SENCOs.)
I support IndigoBell!!

zzzzz Tue 18-Sep-12 15:18:46

I don't know what this is about.

MNHQ can you explain?

What I do know is Indigo is one of our flock and the geese on this board will hiss quite loudly if she has been removed without due cause.

StarlightMcKenzie Tue 18-Sep-12 15:19:12

very strange. I can't imagine what on earth for.

very sad news though. hope it is resolved soon.

ThoughtBen10WasBadPokemonOMG Tue 18-Sep-12 15:20:48

I support you Indigo. You have helped our family alot by suggesting routes for us to follow to help DS. x

Badvoc Tue 18-Sep-12 15:22:32

I'd she had made disablist comments or made personal attacks she would still be here.
She simply stated that in her opinion dyslexia is curable (as evinced by her experiences with her dd)
That is the reason given.
It's total shit.
Am very very disillusioned with MN ATM...

dev9aug Tue 18-Sep-12 15:23:51

I will add my name to the people who have been helped by Indigo. So MNHQ please reconsider your decision.

KimberlyMicado Tue 18-Sep-12 15:24:24

Same here have Indigo to thank for getting me onto the use of vitamins and omega for my DC. Of late I know she was increasingly fed up of being attacked by others on the site though this will perhaps be the last straw for her.

betterwhenthesunshines Tue 18-Sep-12 15:25:24

If MN start banning people for stating personal opinions we are in serious trouble. This has to be balanced against other informative posts surely?!

spiritsam Tue 18-Sep-12 15:25:26

That's awful are we not allowed opinions based on experience ?
Ridiculous !

betterwhenthesunshines Tue 18-Sep-12 15:27:21

Delete an extreme post - perhaps. But a permanent exclusion is madness.

zzzzz Tue 18-Sep-12 15:28:01

Feeling very hisssssssssy.

Have asked MNHQ to explain, I suggest rest of you do too.

StarlightMcKenzie Tue 18-Sep-12 15:40:47

Indigo gets BANNED from an opinion-based internet forum, implying a disability can be cured and yet ATOS workers can go on as normal.........

If this is true it is ridiculous. Indigo and I didn't always see eye to eye but I have absolutely no doubt at all that she has helped many, including me, by her thought provoking posts.

People are always coming up for potential 'cures' for autism, that have some truth basis, or at least can cure some of the symtoms. It is interesting and helpful to hear about them.

I'm a bit cross actually, if this has happened they way it is reported here. Is it perhaps because dyslexia isn't really seen as a REAL disability perhaps, or more mainstreamly acceptable that MNHQ got all oversensitive?

StarlightMcKenzie Tue 18-Sep-12 15:43:42

Right, I'm going on strike for a week. Not suggesting I'm important enough for MN to especially care, but I care so I have to do it.

No doubt they'll be pleased I'll be silent at the challenging behaviour webchat. Good luck with that.

Someone pm me if things change or it transpires Indigo really did morph into an evil witch, otherwise see you all next Tuesday. Bye!

marymary1000 Tue 18-Sep-12 15:52:23

Indigo Bell introduced me to the tinsley house theory, one that had she not I may not have found. This is something that is already in the public domain and when you search on google there are many whose opinions mirror hers and Robins.

I fail to see why for expressing an opinion that she should be banned and if this is not the case MN need to explain what has happened

I have seen this happen on MN before, I have seen comments removed when MN feel they should be, yet MN would not remove a post that I put on there myself that I wanted taken off.

The whole thing is too controlled. You either allow freedom of speech and opinions to be expressed by everyone or no-one in which case what would be the point of a discussion board.

I suggest that people who want to have an open and frank discussion move to something on facebook, I would set it up but i havn't got a clue where to start.

See ya MN!!

EllenJaneisnotmyname Tue 18-Sep-12 15:55:28

That's madness. angry I don't always agree with some of Indigo's opinions or methods, but, blimey, she's never been anything but generous with her time and her advice. Just because I don't always agree with it doesn't mean it's not useful for some. For all I know, I'm wrong and she's exactly right. Surely she can't have been banned for her views on curing dyslexia etc? She's also very well known on Primary Education (and popular with many of the teachers there, like Mrz) where she's given a lot of advice on how to help DC with dyslexia including which resources she's found most useful.

Honking for Indigo! Honk, HONK, HONK

Ineedalife Tue 18-Sep-12 15:57:29

Ffs, Indigo Bell is one of our fonts of knowledge. If what she said was unreliable we wouldnt keep asking her stuff would we??

I am honking for Indigo Bell

GoldPedanticPanda Tue 18-Sep-12 15:57:59

I support Indigo, I've always found her views very interesting, and appreciated her advice about extra vitamins for our dc. I thought we were all entitled to our own opinions on here? Go on any other section of mumsnet (AIBU in particular) and you can clearly see other posters points of view with regards to disabilities - why are they allowed to stay?

Ineedalife Tue 18-Sep-12 15:59:36

How do we complain to MNHQ???

Catsdontcare Tue 18-Sep-12 16:05:03

TBH other than the sn section I am finding MN tiresome these days. were it not for the vast vat of knowledge on the sn boards I would probably give it a miss altogether these days.

Has MNHQ responded at all yet? Can we all report this thread so as to get a response on here?

GoldPedanticPanda Tue 18-Sep-12 16:05:46

what's with all the honks? smile

Ineedalife Tue 18-Sep-12 16:08:09

Its all about geese flying together and honking so they dont get lost, I think.

Someone posted something about us mums of children with special needs flying together and helping each other.

think that is the general gistsmile
