Anyone with older children in nappies - (gross question sorry..)...)

Ok DS is not quite 3 yet so not even that old to be in nappies still, but potty training is a LONG way off. I am despairing at how to deal with the poos. Sorry for TMI but the nappies just do not contain them and I am sick of dealing with clothes which are covered with shit! Sometimes it is so bad (all down the legs etc) that I have to bath him after changing. We are using pampers active fit nappies at the moment. I can't always predict when he is going to do one. Does anyone have any tips either on te best nappies for older children or anything else which might help? Would changing his diet help (he eats a lot of bananas and fruit - reluctant to cut this out as it is healthy but maybe not helping with the explosions)? He will be going to nursery soon and I can't have this happening there :(

I found cloth nappies to be the best at containment when dd1 was that age (she too had explosive poos, very messy and runny) - I used a 2 part system which meant that (if the poo was really bad) the wrap was the next line of defence...

changing diet might help, but it can be hard to start tinkering around, and I would not do so without lots of reading and research. does your ds have any SN (sorry to not know). Lots of us on here do use adapted diets with our children, for different reasons. overall, I would say that a 3 year old with constantly runny poos probably has somethign going on digestion wise, but that is just my opinion.

oh and yes - nursery can and should deal with it. but you will ned to be organised re: spare clothes etc.

Does sound like a digestive issue to me, DD is 5 this week and we use huggies size 6 and they contain her poos perfectly well, I would think about his diet, definitely.

i might cut down on the fruit temporarily and see if it helps, if it was me.

My ds is 5yo (23kg), we've used NHS size 7 nappies from 4yo (they're too small now we'll be going up a size next time). He has major bowel issues & they've contained it fine. Between 3 & 4 we used the Lidl biggest size nappies & they did okay although we started getting explosions towards the end - we just made sure that we provided lots of changes of clothes for nursery!

Some NHS areas provide nappies from 3 years old so it would be worth checking, we went via the HV but in some places it is the school nurse that sorts them out.

My dd is like this we use lidl or also nappies and they are the best

My dd2 is 4.6 and still in nappies,I swear by ALDi nappies,they are brill!!
She wears Huggies pull-ups for school,as they prefer pant type nappies,but they are pretty rubbish at holding a 'runny one' in & she has come home in borrowed school spare clothes because of said pull-ups,which must be embarrassing for her,although she can't tell me because she is non-verbal.

Thanks everyone. Will try to get to aldi/lidl then! He has CP. hopefully we will get to see a dietician fairly soon anyway so will def speak to them about it. It is nice to know I am not the only one who has experienced this though!

If you are finding size 6 nappies too small and you can't get them on the nhs just yet, try these they are very good and are made by pampers.
