apologies before I start, however that by school and there too far up themselves f*n staff has me ill. I have been in total meltdown all day, Iv'e been sick, my stomaches in nots and my heads banging!!! I agreed to taking ds to school on a Thursday to work with his home tutor one day a week in school. He's been out of school over a year and the staff have been back 2 days and not one has been in touch to ask how he is or do we think we will make it to school this year. From previous experience they have caused enough crap for us and never helped my ds. I now feel what's the point in me taking him to somwhere who doesn't really want him anyway!!! I'm annoyed!!!

dev, it's because it is a much bigger deal for you than it is for them. It is your life. Their lives are about meeting a class of 30, about preparing their lessons, about logistics of their own childcare arrangements, and about probably dealing with anxious parents who are contacting them.

You're taking it too personally. I agree it doesn't sound like a particularly caring school towards your ds, but I doubt very much my ds' school would do it either. We, SN parents are often set up from the start. As a parent of a child with a SN you are, by definition, troublesome, but how can we not be in the current system?

What parent is going to know how badly her child is being failed and not make a fuss of sorts.

But this time you have the home tutor, whom he knows, to support him. Keep an open mind. It is a new year, a new teacher, and a new arrangement. Try to be as positive as you can and as hard as it is, do try and be determined to make it work, so you know if it doesn't you really did do everything, and if it does, - well excellent.

I know how frustrating the schools and Education Dept. can be, and following your posts, I know they havent exactly helped you!
Normally Id be shouting with you-mine arent much better, but, in fairness, school has only been back 2 days, and staff will be concentrating on the pupils in school.
Contact whoever you made the arrangement to go into school with, and make sure they have liased with relevant staff and provision for ypur ds to study has been made.

Hope all goes well and ds doesnt find the time too stressfull.

thanks both. I would cut them a bit of slack if it was a class of 30 etc but it's special school and a class of 6 including ds, with 5 support staff and a teacher. The pupils aren't in until tomorrow which is why I thought they would have been in touch. The social worker managed to speak to them with regards she had for ds, she agrees they should of made contact but no call, no email, not even via a secretary.

"We, SN parents are often set up from the start. As a parent of a child with a SN you are, by definition, troublesome, but how can we not be in the current system?"

Love this starlight and I am now making myself ill trying to work out ways to not be in the system, have tried all day.

Up until now bigpants all we have come up with is contacting the psyc but he's not around until Friday. He did say no school visits as yet so I am going to speak to the social worker and the home tutor to see if we can put it on hold until further notice.

Thanks again x
