no idea what the LA have planned for her re: school placement, as they are ignoring our letters.

just when we were on an even keel too.

oh well, a life without drama is no life at all (or something)

Oh no - does the school not go up any higher (in age I mean!) I've just been in touch with a friend in a very similar position except the letter from the LEA arrived today and she needs to get loads of information from the school before they all leave for the holidays in order to lodge an appeal. The timing is too suspicious to be accidental.....

PS where did you do your BS (QTS) - I saw that you were 99/00. I did the same finishing the same year!

her (private, hard fought for) SN school is closing as of today. it was a sudden decision, we've had a couple of weeks notice.

I just wish we knew what the LA were thinking - knowing what you are up against is half the battle...

she has skipped off happy as always this morning, I don't think it has fully sunk in yet. she has been doing countdowns (last one swimming, last one horse riding etc) but I think part of her is calculating htis as "last one before school holidays"...

thanks Hairy - how is your ds getting on? in another life dd1 coudl have been alongside him!

I am suspicious of the lack of communication form the LA - just speaking form experience... but I don't like how we are heading out of term and into that wasteland known as the summer holidays - when did anythign ever get decided by an LA in August?!

was at Brighton for my teaching degree - was a condensed job - full degree and QTS in 2 years.

oh blimey silverfrog! Do you know where you'd like her to go, are there any other options nearby?

Report
HairyMaclary · 21/07/2011 09:16

Oh crikey - that's not good - there's no option for staying there then! Not the same place for degree then - I was in London.

I think it's very suspicious about the LEA - I think they like to make it even harder for the 'difficult' parents.

DS doing very very well, fully integrated now and flying along socially and academically - it's been a great year. Next year may well bring more challenges as we may have major ops to contend with as well.

we have an offer of a place, Ninja, and have informed LA of this. in theory, it could be as easy as a straightfroward transfer.

it is the always sensitive bit of adapting the statement that is the problem... and no option but to change the statement!

that's brilliant news about your ds, Hairy - you must be very proud Smile major ops doesn't sound good - hope they go as well as they possibly can.

not in Brighton, no. thanks anyway Smile

am chasing the LA today. it'll all get sorted in the end (it did last time, and I have to believe it will again, as otherwise, well, there just isn't an alternative!)

but it's just the runaround from the LA that is so unnecessary...

Really keep bashing away at the LA over the next few days because IME they will all be 'on holiday' for the next six weeks and you'll get no sense at all from them. Good luck Smile

silverfrog · 21/07/2011 10:24

yep. that's the problem (I know it well from our last round of fights!).

but on the other hand, they do not have this luxury. come September, they are legally obliged ot have a school place for dd1...

still no word, btw. am on repeat dial.

Are you happy with the place you have been offered?

Is it another indep school? SS?

Report
silverfrog · 21/07/2011 10:46

yes, we are happy with the offer. it's another ABA school. pros and cons, obviously (not least any change of school), but overall it would be a good move for dd1.

...just need the statement transfer....

I'm sure it will happen then :)

Like you say the LEA have to place her somewhere - and this school want her.

Crossing everything for you, Silverfrog. I can't imagine how you're feeling, hope this limbo gets sorted out very soon.

Report
silverfrog · 21/07/2011 13:18

thanks, EllenJane.

it's the limbo that is the killer - once we know where we all stand, we can get on with sorting out whatever needs to be sorted out.

but until then......

you wouldn't think it was that hard to work out that someone needs to speak to a manager to get things going. Our sen team only answer phones between 10 and 12, hardly easily accessible Hmm I agree with the worst bit being the waiting, mainly because you can't do anything until you know one way or the other.

nothing as yet. clearly the manager is actually in another time zone, or something.

have just got back from collecting dd1 - had a small party for everyone to say goodbye and thankyou - not a dry eye in the house.

so, the end of an era, but the start of a new one - whatever, and wherever that may be

thanks for the cake, Ninja - have just scoofed loads at dd1's school, but more always welcome Grin (will be the size of a house by the time we hear anything at this rate!)

The manager is probably looking around to see where his cake has disapeared to Grin

hope your dd doesnt get too upset about it. At least it is now holidays so no one is going to school so she wont see difference for a while and hopefully some more positive news will turn up x
