DLA - how much during the day and how many minutes? HUH!?!

Even with the Cerebra booklet, I'm not sure how I'm supposed to work this out or what I'm supposed to put.

Question 8 - Day supervision. 7 days a week! but 'how much of the day do they need someone with them?' on and off during the day - I or someone needs to be close by or backwards and forwards checking up and making sure DS hasn't wee'd etc, wrapped a wire around his neck or eaten his way through the sofa!
How do you work that out? What about when he's at school?

Then theres how many minutes?

HELP PLEASE Blush Confused

720 minutes each day - is what I was advised to put 12 hours * 60 mins Night time issues if any are accounted for separately.

Even if you don't need to be 'with' him but just popping in and out?

I put constant for minutes and repeatedly for how often.

I put all the time or constantly for my DS. Didn't bother with number of minutes. He's disabled all the time, not just sometimes. He got MRC and LRM, as he now sleeps through most nights. Someone needs to be looking out for him while he's at school, too, even if it isn't you.

It's a very hard form to fill in, I know. You are not being disloyal, you are doing your best to get him some financial security. Horrible thinking about all the things he can't do. But it's a means to an end, is all.

I don't know if it helps, but I was told by a chap from the DWP (DLA department) that as long as the minutes add up to more than 16 hours a week, that is what counts for low rate care.
I bet you do a heck of a lot more hours than that in a week!

Good luck with it :)
Nikki.

do u have a key worker from KIDS, they are experts at filling in form, mine is coming next week to fill mine in

Used to be advisor for big charity and was told that if you're up 3 times or more in the night (plus day care of course) they qualify for high rate.
As for how many minutes, i generally put 24/7 or 'how long is a piece of string!'

Take your time and review your answers before sending it off, also photocopy it for next time you have to do ohne so you can see if anything has changed, got worse or not so bad etc...

"All waking hours, every day" is useful too!

Mine is taking so long, I keep putting it on the back burner
Kids, work, kids, work/course... It's just too long, too detailed and a real struggle to complete.I should phone and request the DLA pack so can get it backdated to now
{Exasperated emoticon needed!}

I think the problem with me, is that I'm a control freak on these things and don't want anyone else doing it Blush
I'll ask SENCO/Teacher what they think on things I've written, but I wouldn't be able to let someone else deal with the paperwork if its directly for me to complete. Silly I know, but I just want to make sure everything I want to say is there and in my words.

Don't forget to photocopy it before you send it off. The next one comes along far too quickly.

Just to let you know that if you have a disabled child you can get someone out from C.A.B to help you go through the forms. Mine was from a part of CAB that was set up to help carers of disabled kids get the right entitlement,(down here it as Devon Welfare rights) be it DLA, or whatever. Good luck. I was turned down twice, before I insisted on appeal and I won... the best bit, they had to back date it. Whatever you do make sure you stay in their time line, the date that is stamped for return on the top of the application, then if it's a long haul, and you get what you are entitled to, then they have to back date. good luck, it's a nightmare and even with support, took over 2hours to fill in! Also, if you do go to appeal, then they can sit by your side and give you support, they also can quote 'case law'. hugs. Skip

I managed to phone up for the pack today - go me :)

But while I'm filling in the saved version from online - its taking about an hour per question... am I doing it wrong or just exceptionally slow? Confused

Cinnamon (always go to spell you with one n and two m's!) It took me 5 weeks to complete. I don't think you are being slow at all - just thorough.

Lenin I've been doing mine since February but on and off between lots of other things. I downloaded it and the just update and save on my laptop. Its when everyone kept saying you get three months and they will back date it that I thought might be best if I request a pack and make sure I complete it. Thats gives me another three months.

Ellen I'm not working on it tonight... my brain is well and truly fried, I'm on autopilot. I think a shower will spring me back into action until bedtime.
If I'm lucky, I might stay awake for a programme.. Zzzz
