Lessons from Geese

I came across this earlier and it summed up the way this board has helped me.

Fact 1:
As each goose flaps its wings, it creates an "uplift" for the birds that follow. By flying in a "V" formation, the whole flock adds 71% greater flying range than if each bird flew alone.
Lesson:
People who share a common direction and sense of community can get where they are going quicker and easier because they are travelling on the thrust of one another.

Fact 2:
When a goose falls out of formation, it suddenly feels the drag and resistance of flying alone. It quickly moves back into formation to take advantage of the lifting power of the bird immediately in front of it.
Lesson:
If we have as much sense as a goose, we stay in formation with those headed where we want to go. We are willing to accept their help and give our help to others.

Fact 3:
The geese flying in formation honk to encourage those up front to keep up their speed.
Lesson:
We need to make sure our honking is encouraging. In groups where there is encouragement, the production is much greater. The power of encouragement is the quality of honking we seek.

Honk, honk... honk, honk, honk...... honk, honk... honk, honk, honk...... honk, honk...

Honking geese are noticed.
One silent goose on its own passes without comment.

My morning so far.....

Awake in the night with small goose (gosling? Is that the correct form?) and after 3rd time, just lie there, waiting for alarm to go off. By the time brekky done, could have done with a snooze.

Got ds ready for school. Watched dismayed, as he proceeded to remove every item of clothing, twice, cause that's what he has to do. Try to stop him scrubbing away at his hands and face till they are raw looking (and still, in his mind, NOT CLEAN ENOUGH). Running late again as we go through his autistic/OCD checks. Nearly forget his meds (which I beat myself up over, every time I spoon feed those anti-depressants (for OCD diagnosis), crushed and poorly disguised in yoghurt, into his small beak.

Check the plugs....doors.....windows. Put his coat on then lose it a bit because he's managed somehow to get it inside out (after it's been put on right side up!) Re-check those plugs, doors and windows. Check the clock to notice that despite being up nearly 2 hours and living 5 mins from the school.... WE WILL BE LATE AGAIN!

Last but not least, say good morning to step-daughter on her way out the door to college.....only to be ignored and looked at like I am truly the most insignificant of beings. Oh Joy!

I swear, I almost followed her down the path....honking all the way! Afraid what the neighbours might think so, have perfected the soundless (internal) HONK!

Am now smoothing my ruffled feathers and flapping for all I'm worth..... just waiting for a breeze to uplift me.

Xmas Grin

I am putting in extra effort today for two reasons:

1/ I have made the inside of my first weighted blanket. I used marbles, and sewed them into pockets between two bits of lining material. That means that tomorrow I can piss about with fleece, felt, googly eyes, velvet and beads to applique a fairy onto the front. I also get to go browse round my local fabric shot Xmas Grin

2/ Tonight I am taking my Youth club dudes and dudettes to the pub. We're off to sing carols, feed fish and chips to, and hand out presents from Santa to all the house-bound elderly people in the local area. I did it for the first time last year and it is AWESOME fun Xmas GrinXmas Grin

So, lots of flapping from me to help anyone who hasn't had such a great time of it today

Honking, ladies!

Hope you enjoyed your day purple. The youth club sounds grand. Good work.

Have just endured my monthly row with my ex husband who insists that I "have made" our ds as he is. Git. My beautiful son has two very real diagnoses from a number (over the years) of very real professionals.

I hiss (gooselike) in his general direction!!

wendiThat's the other thing about geese, they can be bloody scary too, Xmas Grin Xmas Wink.

not so big as a swan, but they act in groups, people used to use flocks of geese as un official 'guard dogs' on farms in the past...

imagine us all hissing at him, Wink
