What's generally done at these multi agency meetings please? We're having one next week, and I'm just trying to prepare mentally for it.
Attending will be:
- myself
- paed
- SENCO
- speech and language person
- teacher
- fizzy instructor/TA that works daily with DS2
as 1:1
- early years consultant
While I'm impressed they've got everyone together, I'm curious just what happens at these meetings. I'm assuming a discussion of where we're at with his support levels and what is expected in the near future? Or is that not right?
I know that one of the things mentioned by the teacher and SENCO at one point was to consider whether or not mainstream was the best way for DS2. However, when I brought it up to the paed and explained to her that we weren't comfortable with switching DS2 at this point, she very firmly said this wasn't an option and if they brought it up again to tell them so. Of course, now that she's coming to the meeting, I anticipate that she will be saying that herself.
It's not like we're having any specific problems with their support levels - the school has happily set up:
- 1:1 support fulltime, including during lunch and recess times(even though they've struggled to secure funding, HT & SENCO have both assured us they will make sure it's covered somehow)
- extra class 3 times per week for coordination work (attended by a few children with dyspraxia)
- speech and language person working with him once every six weeks, with specific things set up for the TA to work with him on
Plus they've made ear defenders and other equipment available to him to use in class and made lots of other little adjustments as well.
- early years person working with him once a week
There's been no indication that they're planning on taking any of it away, and they are pushing for a statement (in fact, they've managed to get the Ed Psych to come in the beginning of January to observe him) and have gotten this all coordinated within 2-3 months.
I feel silly asking, but it does puzzle me. I don't expect any massive hassles about anything - are these usually just a "get together to see where everyone is at" type of thing?
