Save our SN School!!!

Please help,

Our local council has taken a decision, all but signed and delivered, to not repair the local SN school and instead want to re-house the children. There are various options being put to parents with each being more ridiculous than the one before. Think officially we still in consultation but from last meeting think its been decided by people who dont realise the impact closing the school will have. They can see no reason why children wont accept a change of school or routine Angry

Anyways, the parents group has started a "save our school" page on facebook. Not sure if I am allowed to advertise this here but wil give it a go. If you type in "Save Stanecastle School" on facebook and search for the page, your support in keeping this open would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance

Karen

It's worth looking at the law surrounding changes to SEN provision. Local Authorities must show that new provision is likely to be better than the provision it replaces - known as the SEN Improvement Test. The test also applies specifically to any children that are displaced by the change in provision. For instance, if some of the children are moved to a special unit in a mainstream school, some into mainstream and some to another special school, the LA have to show that the provision in all three cases meets the SEN Improvement test. There are other requirements that the LA have to take into account too (eg initial considerations, transport)

Also remember that the coalition gvt "are looking closely at the present arrangements to ensure that we remove the bias towards inclusion and prevent the unnecessary clsoure of special schools" - that came from an email from the D of E I received a couple of weeks ago. Dave C has also stated his opposition to closure whilst he was in opposition himself. There's a good speech on the Conservative website somewhere where he talks About square pegs and round holes.

Discodad - Thanks for this, the links are not working but will have a search on the internet and see what I can find.

To everybody who has joined our fight, we are not sure what effect it will have but we cant just lie down to the councillors so thank you all so much.
