handwriting difficulties and 8 year old

DS2 has acknowldged handwriting issues, he is what they call 'effectively dyslexic'(ie the ed psych doesn't fo dx's in our lea),and he ticks a lot f the boxes for ADD and dyspraxia, SENCO said she'd write a letter to get him seen by family Paed (2 sibs with asd) back in June but still waitiing.

AT his parents evening the etahcers said he porbably won't ever write clearly so to teach him IT.

Asper my usual waste of space self I didnt think to question at the time and it has takewn a week to sink in

Now at my Uni there was access to IT but only yif you have supportivng evidence, so surely DS2 withh no handwriting and no formal help (he's on SA) will never get anywhere? He's bright as a button but written schoolwork is a write off.

I'm used to the SSEN syetm with asd but have no ideas how to approach this one. What should I ask for and at what level? I don't know how to help him or what the reality is for him.

Initially ask if they offer a touch typing course. It may be he can use a laptop in class but only once he has reached a specific level of competency and fluidity. Can they refer , or you ask gp to refer, to paed and/or OT assessment? OT can offer therapy to help strength and control of fine motor skills and practical advice on posture, writing slopes and surfaces, suitable pencil grip and pens etc. They would also assist in any arguement towards accessing a laptop and it usage in exams, althgouh he would also need a report from an Ed Psych.

There isn't an ed psych here (our resigned and never was replaced)- that explains why theya re holding back then.

They asked us to sort touch typing (which with my posts is like the blind leading the...), have no ideas where to start though
