Possible Dyslexia

My dc (14) has been diagnosed as having memory processing issues. She also struggles with spelling and the school sendco has stated that the two may well be linked but has also stated that the school doesn't regularly provide dyslexia screenings at school and if we wish to proceed with this, it is via a private educational psychologist - which implies we will pay for this. I am asking whether this is how we should proceed by approaching a private educational psychologist or whether there is any obligation on the part of the school? DC is due to sit GCSE's next year and has already been granted additional exam time in light of the initial findings. Any advice please?

I am not a parent, but used to work with dyslexic students at university and am interested in learning what support is available for dyslexic children in schools.

Depends on the school an willingness of SENCO to push for local authority EP evaluation. If you can afford it enlisting a private Ed psych or Dyslexia Assesor will help to expedite the whole process as they will also assess for examination concessions.
