Aspergers girl - where to go for assessment

Hi everyone, I strongly suspect my DD, age 8 has Aspergers, the school SENCo is in agreement. I have completed some massive forms for the school to send off in the hope that DD can be referred to an NHS psychologist to be seen for an assessment. I've been told the wait is 18 months to 2 years. We can't wait that long and are willing to pay and go private. But who do I go and see? Can anyone advise? We live in SE London. Any recommendations?

I understand from doing some reading that girls are much harder to diagnose than boys. So perhaps a professional that specialises in diagnosing females.

Thank you

Do you have private medical insurance? If so, they may be able to advise. Also, Helen Arkell Centre in Farnham, Surrey assess for educational needs - may be worth a call to them.

Thank you for the replies, Lorna Wing is close to me. No, I don't have private medical cover, will be self funding.

Hi, agree with PPs that Lorna Wing / NAS May be able to help with diagnosis. But please stay on the NHS list too as apparently private diagnoses aren't always accepted by others. Hope you get what you need.
