Auditory Processing Disorder

My DS is 10 and I took him to get assessed yesterday as he has been having problems with learning at school namely in reading initially but he is now fine with that and also fine with spelling. His problems have been in maths but also English, I think mostly he has been struggling with understanding more complex instructions when in class and he has needed a lot more help. In fairness the school have recognised this and put him in smaller groups to try and and help him.

When I was looking in APD website, I identified with many of the difficulties it identified with APD.
Incidentally after some thorough testing with audiologist, we met with the consultant in APD who said he clearly has APD problems and suggested DS being seated at the front of the class.

My questions if anyone can help are these:

How to best explain to my son that there is nothing wrong with him, but to help him understand why he finds it difficult to learn in some areas . He already worries that in his words " if I don't do well when I go to big school I won't get a good job". OMG I'm so sad that he is even thinking like this, my DH are sooo not pushy so I really want to try and build his confidence.

Is APD classed as a learning disability.?

Is there any specific level of statutory provision at he would be entitled to get as I'm concerned that going to comprehensive will mean he "gets lost" and this will further undermine his confidence.

I try and get him to have things to do he enjoys outside of school so that school does not become the sole foucus of his world.

Any advice would be really appreciated, I just want to make sure I've done everything I can help him be confident and happy and to reach his full potential whatever that is for him.

Many thanks

All I can suggest is that you have him assessed by an ed Psyc and seek advice on respect of the support he may require longer term. My son has auditory processing disorder, but he is also severely dyslexic. He learns visually, so there are lots of recommendations in place to support this for example.

Many thanks for replying to my post, I'm due tonmeet ip with Senconat school before summer holidays so will ask about another ed psych assessment. Incidentally I was only asking if it was classed a learning disability as my son is really conscious of being "different" and I was only wanting to know so I can explain to him.
Thanks again. X
