Dyslexia, Dyspraxia school placement help!
(14 Posts)Hello does anyone know of a suitable independant school which specialises in dyslexia dyspraxia and speech. This is for a year 7 placement , I now have a little over a month to find a placement and I am at my witts end! I live in Oswestry, Shropshire and realise my lovely boy will have to weekly board, there is simply nothing in my area. My sons dyslexia, dyspraxia is quite severe so need a specialist spld place, the only ones I can locate are over 3 hours away!
Or London, I am in a position where the LEA are in agreement but can't find a place, I would be sooooo grateful if anyone can recommend a independant school that perhaps I've missed. I really don't want my son to board to far away as he needs to be home weekends
Have you checked out Frewen? (if it would be suitable)
Or is this one of the 3 hours away options?
www.personalisededucation.co.uk is a fantastic school but a bit far away. Specialise in both.
Centre academy, they have one in battersea but not boarding and another (boarding) in east anglia. I know all the boarding children go home over the weekend.
A friend of mine has a son at Shapwick, Somerset. He's now doing brilliantly and so much happier.
Hula, I am trying to see the school you mention but I can't get it to work. Is that the right web address?
What about Abbotsholme in Staffordshire or Bredon in Herefordshire .Both are mainstream but have a high proportion of extra needs, they are also a lot more local than earlier suggestions
Hi, it's called St Annes College Grammar School in St Annes on Sea.
www.personalisededucation.co.uk
Or try www.sacgs.co.uk just checked - might be better. Worth asking for a bursary if you call them too!
check this out
Ellesmere is a specialist Dyslexic college, very sporty and poss on an Oswestry bus route
Hmmmm maybe sporty won't suit him, theater facilities and music looked good too(Viewed it for dyslexic sporty DD)
I have a friend who's children love it and we would have sent DD but for strong friendship ties at current school
If this advice is not too late - have a look at the "Crested" list of schools. You will find them using a good search engine.
They are approved private schools with reviews all over the UK.
~Good luck.
